Many travel plans have been put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is now even more uncertainty with the evolving Delta variant. These uncertainties don’t mean you have to stop living your life; they just mean you have to find new, safer ways to continue traveling the world!
I get it. We’re all tired of hearing about COVID-19. Some people still don’t believe it’s real or that it’s not that severe.
Unfortunately, opinions change if you are the one diagnosed with COVID-19. By that time, it’s too late because there is no cure. There is only symptomatic relief and then it’s a waiting game. Because that’s how viruses work. How do I know? I’m in healthcare. But hey, what do I know?
You may have to make some changes as to how you live your life. This may lead to some new adventures! Instead of going on a cruise ship, you may have to go on a road trip.
Tips for Travel during COVID-19
1. Explore Your City and Surrounding Areas
Within 2-3 hours, there are lots of weekend getaway opportunities depending on where you live in the country. With this pandemic, we have had the opportunity of visiting the mountains, trying new restaurants (usually take out), biking downtown, and taking our dog on new trails. While it may not be the adventure we typically plan, it has allowed us to spend some time together while enjoying the outdoors.
2. Follow CDC Guidelines
As research continues to reveal more about the virus, so do the CDC guidelines. This can be confusing to many people. The CDC guidelines are constantly being updated via the website.
3. Check Local Requirements and Restrictions
State and local governments may have restrictions in place depending on COVID-19 risk assessment. Some local governments may have mask mandates, require quarantine upon arrival, have stay-at-home orders, and/or have travel restrictions. While most of these restrictions have been lifted as to date, it doesn’t hurt to check the state and local health department for up to date information.
4. Travel By Car
To minimize risk of COVID-19 transmission and infection, avoid crowded spaces and wear a mask. You can easily do this when traveling by car.
5. Pack Cleaning Supplies and Masks
Wearing a mask is required if traveling on a plane, bus, train, or other forms of public transportation. Wearing a mask is also required while indoors at U.S. transportation centers, such as airports and bus stations.
